Q: I am having a dinner party and serving homemade pizza. I am having a hard time coming up with a good dessert to serve, as I feel like a pie, cake, or bar might be too heavy to have after some hearty pizza. Any suggestions for a light, delicious, fall dessert?

Editor: Caitlin, what about ice cream? Consider this pumpkin oil ice cream, for instance, or a cider sorbet:

• Autumn Recipe: Spiced Apple Cider Sorbet
Readers, what else would you suggest?

AT posted a recipe a while ago for a Fool. Easy to make, light and yummy.
we usually do a sorbet and a small plate of biscotti with a dessert wine. or just fresh fruit with some vanilla cream sauce for dipping or drizzling.
Pear and/or apple cobbler or just roast the fruit and serve with vanilla ice cream?
I agree with the previous posts - fruit and crunchy stuff.
I agree on the idea of roasted or poached fruit, with or without ice cream or whipped cream, or maybe a fruit crumble that's heavier on the fruit than the topping. You could also consider lemon pot de creme or something similar, in very tiny portions.
Roasted fruit is always nice… but I'm a chocoholic, so I would suggest a light and airy mouse.
Pears in red wine?
Sorbet would be the best. Lemon, maybe?
Don't discount cake! A small slice of spice cake, light gingerbread, or some sort of fruit cake, that is (most importantly) NOT FROSTED is a nice light fall dessert that goes well with pizza.
Keeping it Italian, a panna cotta - a light yet creamy dessert. Link is to lemon, but panna cotta comes in lots of flavors: lavendar+honey, chocolate, pear, ...

Agreeing...ice cream or sorbet is always a no fail after hot & hearty pizza. Fresh fruit is good too but I'd skip 'doctoring it up' after the rich flavorful pizza and stick with a light dipping sauce at most for those who might want it.
Blood orange sorbet or the coconut flavor (I like the Talenti brand) and a plain biscotti (freshly made if you can find!), served in a tall red wine glass -- accompanied by French press coffee.
I think it totally depends on the flavor and type of pizza you're serving. Thin crust pizza that's light on cheese will allow more options, like cake or ice cream. If it's a very cheesy or meaty pizza, I'd stick with sorbet or fruit. Seasonal toppings (like butternut squash and sage) would be complimented by a seasonal dessert (an apple crisp). Think about how you'll serve it, too: all you can eat slices or 1-2 plated per person with some lightly dressed greens on the side? And, of course, if guests know a spectacular dessert is on its way they'll likely save room!
Affogato!
Roasted strawberries and a dollop of vanilla ice cream.
Strawberries macerated in orange juice or wine,
or I once had a pizza party and served ice cream floats! You can make your own vanilla syrup, strawberry syrup, or chocolate syrup!
Lots of good ideas here. The right answer is nothing with a crust or flour base of any sort (i.e cake is out). That means ice cream or fruit, but if you are serving a red pizza I would skip the red fruit.

This Ottolenghi recipe is seasonal, not heavy, but deliciously indulgent: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/fruit_and_cobnut_crumble_92561
A creamy yet light cold pear soup with vanilla & cinnamon served with dices of gingerbread (croutons-style) would be my choice.
Seasonal fruit with homemade dips
Thanks for the feedback! The pizzas I made were thin crust and ended up being relatively light as far as pizzas go. I went with apple crisp and vanilla ice cream- went over very well!
