Q: I had a friend from the midwest who used to make this treat that consisted of covering popcorn with almond bark and while it was still hot, she would mix in M & Ms, candy corn, and pretzels. But, I'm not sure if I remember this correctly, therefore I'm not sure how to make this or even the name of this delicious snack. It was always something she made at the holidays and thinking back on it now, I would love to find a recipe for it. If anyone knows, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Editor: Alexandra, that sounds a little bit like this recipe:

That sounds like one of the million-and-one variations on "puppy chow." It's basically chocolate (and peanut butter, if you like) melted and poured over a combination of crunchy stuff like Chex cereal, popcorn, pretzels, or whatever you like. It's usually dusted with powdered, then you add some sort of candy, like M&Ms or Reece's Pieces.
You could call or email your friend and ask for the recipe?
Usually when someone asks for a recipe, the recipe-holder is usually flattered.
My friend who makes this stuff calls it "white trash". Searching that brings up a lot of recipes.
Second to the "white trash" commenter. My mom makes it every year - it's essentially just Chex Mix + almond bark. She uses M&Ms, pretzels, Chex cereal, and peanuts, I think. :)
I agree with the white trash, too. I had it once at a Christmas party and it was the first thing to go. It basically consisted of pretzels, bugles, popcorn, chex, nuts, smarties -- anything, really! And then covered in white chocolate. Her "recipe" was just to take whatever snacks you like and cover them in melted chocolate and let it cool. Done!
Yep! White trash it is. Our version is stick pretzels, peanuts and Honeycomb cereal.
Recipe:
1. Melt one bag or so of white chocolate or almond bark
2. Pour over a bowl of crunchy stuff
3. Mix to coat, being careful not to crunch up too many pieces
4. Pour out in a thin layer on a cookie sheet or three, lined in wax paper
5. Wait until chocolate sets and break apart
(if you want to get fancy-pants you could melt some dark chocolate and drizzle it over the pans prior to breaking)
6. Serve to your adoring public
Another great version: Corn Pops, popcorn, Fritos, white chocolate.
More holiday-ish: dried cranberries, pretzel sticks, Wheat Chex, pecans, white chocolate
Okay, so I realize this is a cooking site, but Harry and David's Moose Munch (sometimes can be found in Target if you don't have a H&D store near you) is pretty much this, and it is amazing.
