Q: My anniversary is coming up and I want to get my husband some high quality ice cream delivered.
Does anybody have a suggestion for a delivery company?

Editor: Meredith, well, since we are all about cooking at home of course we're going to suggest first to make it yourself — maybe using a recipe from here?
But having got that out of the way, I certainly recommend Jeni's Ice Cream, based right in my home town. Great flavors, and wonderful ice cream.

I don't know where you live, but I imagine that service to be highly localized. I do know that Gil and Bert's ice cream in Jamesburg, NJ will deliver their ice cream in the off season for a special occasion. they're only open from April-october (I think) and are also open for pint pick ups in the off season. they do have really good ice cream.
Seconding the rec for Jeni's. It's quite a splurge though (last time I ordered, I got 6 pints and it cost close $86). Totally worth it for a special occasion!!
Graeters out of Cincinnati is awesome.
www.graeters.com
They will ship anywhere. Try Chocolate with Peanut butter.
Graeters! $60-$80 to ship overnight 6 pints. Get the black raspberry chip or really any of the chip flavors. They are out of this world.
Also, depending on where you live they might have it in the grocery store. That's also on their website.

I third the rec for Jeni's. My sister in law and her family live in Ohio and they get credit for introducing us, but hubs is now a bonafide addict... he got Jeni's for father's day and I think that may be an annual tradition.
I think it does depend on where you live- I know DC and NYC both have great/seasonal ice cream delivery clubs.
i have convinced myself that jeni's is the only ice cream worth ever eating again. everything else pales.
Jeni's is the greatest. I live about 2 miles from a Jeni's location. It pains me not to go there every week!
Ditto Graeters! I love their pumpkin so much.
I like Jeni's too for the stranger flavors :) I liked their mango lassi flavor!
I dont love any ice cream place in the DC area as much as I love the ice cream from Ohio
JENI'S 100000000%
We [Local Market South] have some pretty amazing ice creams and sorbets if you're looking for something hand-crafted in the Southeast (we ship nationally)--High Road Craft is chef owned and operated, makes their own mixes, blends everything in small-batches...it's incredible stuff (we're partial to Caramel Sea Salt, Bourbon Burnt Sugar, and Caffeine & Cacao, ourselves)...mmmm. Find all the flavors at localmarketsouth.com
I have a neighbor who is a Texan and she has Blue Bell shipped every summer ... she says it's the best ice cream in the world. And she doesn't share so I've never tasted it.

I'm a Texan too, so no offense intended, but Blue Bell doesn't hold a candle to Jeni's.
I loove Laloo's goat milk ice cream from icecreamsource.com : )
La Divina Gelateria has wonderful made from scratch gelato. They are based in New Orleans, but will send gelato anywhere! Ladivinagelateria.com.
Simply put, Graeters out of Cincinnati is the best ice cream in this country! I ordered 12 pints a few summers ago when my best friend's father was dying of brain cancer. He only wanted one thing, ice cream. This ice cream is out of this world.
two words: abbotts. custard. (rochester, ny) http://www.abbottscustard.com/
Jumping on the Jeni's bandwagon. Saw their spot on "Unique Sweets" and - even though it can be found in some stores in NYC - I wasn't willing to do anything but order it online right then - in that moment. It was for a dinner party we were having the following week - our guests never saw it because we tasted it and decided to keep it for ourselves. SCRUMPTIOUS.
I love JENI'S! She even came out with a cookbook to make the same flavors at home!!!
Graeters is very good (and actually available in an increasing number of supermarkets throughout the country, but Jeni's is far superior. If you don't want to pay a ton for shipping, check out her website and see if it might available at a local store.
Try the ULTRA super fabulous Salt & Straw here in Portland, Oregon!

The sea salt ice cream with caramel ribbons is to die for...
Jeni's would be my vote, too. The seasonal flavors are particularly good (Sweet Corn and Blackberry is one of my favorites.)
Wow - I have to try Jeni's! But... I worked for years for Amy's Ice Creams in Austin, Texas, and she will ship anywhere in the US. It's expensive due to the dry ice needed to ship. Check out their site at www.amysicecreams.com. They are most famous for a flavor called Mexican Vanilla, but they have local/seasonal (think Fredricksburg Peach) flavors as well as more artisanal flavors like Jalepeno Lemon, Shiner Bock, etc.
eCreamery in Omaha delivers nationwide.
Another vote for Graeter's! I've never had Jeni's though, and now I'm curious.
I don't get the 'influenza sorbet." Will someone explain?
Graeters. Pure Awesomeness. (My favorite: coconut chip). But pay the premium and get it shipped from Ohio. The stuff in the grocery stores is not anywhere near as good.
I actually work for Jeni's so I'm obviously going to vote for us! :)
The influenza sorbet was one of our very popular seasonal flavors. It is filled with orange juice, ginger, cayenne, bourbon and pectin. Sooo tasty. Kind of like a frozen hot toddy, but also not at all like that.
here on the west coast, Dr. Bob's is the greatest!

Send Bluebell from Brenham,Texas!! The best and it arrives fully frozen. Many flavors to choose from! B
