Q: Do you know of any good baked donut recipes? I received a pan for Christmas after seeing an enticing recipe here on The Kitchn (a Delicious Link?). But when I finally baked them, the recipe turned out to be a dud.
I'm now a bit leery of attempting another recipe from a random Google search. Please help!

Editor: Danielle, oops — so sorry that recipe didn't work out for you! We don't have a recipe we've tried and recommend from experience, although if we were to try we'd probably start with this recipe from the baking experts at King Arthur Flour:

Readers, any suggestions?

King Arthur Flour is definitely a good source. Real Simple has an Easy Doughnut recipe, too. It's not baked, but it's from the Fake It, Don't Make It series so it's super simple. http://bit.ly/gurynA
(Full disclosure, I do work for RS, but the recipe is delicious!)
I've used a recipe for doughnut muffins by How To Simplify and they were wonderful!

Here are three links to recipes I've used and loved:

we love baking donuts in our house :)
We just tried baked doughnuts this weekend. My 12-yr-old daughter wants to try making doughnuts, and deep fat frying scares me. We tried a recipe from "The Providence and Rhode Island Cookbook: Big Recipes from the Smallest State". They called for a lot of nutmeg and a lot of salt, and ended up more like squat muffins (but they disappeared quickly nonetheless). I'm keen to find a good baked donut recipe for my daughter (or advice on deep fat frying).
Martha Stewart's Everyday Food mag, November 2010, has a recipe for "Pumpkin Doughnut Muffins" that taste exactly like doughnuts! They are dense, spicy, and baked--then brushed with butter and rolled in cinnamon sugar.

There was a post here at thekitchn about a year back from Gesine Bullock of "Confections of a closet master baker for "golden eggs" that tastd exactly like doughnuts (according to the video, I have not tried it). She makes bundt shapes, because that is what she had, but she talked about how she had intended to make another shape. I imagine the recipe is pretty versatile, you may just have to improvise the timing a bit. I really think that dughnuts and mini bundts are probably very close, timing wise.

The video tutorial is fantastic.
Oh She Glows baked doughnut recipe. She has a couple of different ones, but they are really good.
I just got a pan too! The Family Circle chocolate cake doughnuts are really good. At first they taste like little cakes (not a bad thing) but the 2nd day they taste like cake doughnuts. I also liked these spiced doughnuts:

I made baked doughnuts for birthday this year--though I didn't use a doughnut pan, just shaped them myself. I found the baked doughnuts to be a bit different in texture but still delicious.
