Q: I'm obsessed with these Williams-Sonoma Peppermint Bark Cookies, but at nearly $23 for only 12 cookies, my grad student pocket aches at the thought. Luckily, I love a good project (anything that will keep me procrastinating from actually writing my dissertation!) and so I thought I'd try my hand at recreating them.
Before I delve into the quest on my own, I was wondering if readers have come across any recipes for peppermint bark with the chocolate wafer base like these cookies, or if they have any suggestions before I move ahead.

Editor: What a fun project, and how delicious! You can see more about these cookies here:

We think that these probably wouldn't be too hard at all to recreate; you just need a good chocolate cookie recipe, and some skill in dipping them.
Readers, any recipe recommendations or tips for Jessica?

i haven't tried them, but these look exactly like the W-S cookies: http://desertculinary.blogspot.com/2010/11/chocolate-peppermint-cookies.html. I'm sure you could email the blogger to see if that was his inspiration. (FYI: everything i've made from that blog has turned out awesome)
I've made these delicious peppermint cookies from Martha Stewart. Looks almost alike too!

I was just going to mention the Martha Stewart cookies--I have not made them yet, but they are identical. I find the MS recipes pretty no-fail.
Both the blog recipe and the Martha Stewart recipe are identical, so that seems like a good bet!
mmm peppermint bark. I can only imagine the tastiness of the cookies.
i've had those martha stewart cookies and they are amazing.
by the way, if you make the martha stewart cookies, make a double batch and freeze them (fully baked and prepared). they are really incredible frozen and they last for quite a while.
Or you could just wait until the W-S go on sale at the end of the season.
I would buy the chocolate wafer cookies -- temper some white chocolate -- layer a few of the cookies and then dip it -- top with candy cane crumbs and let cool. Ooh, I wonder if that would work...
I agree with st@cy -- this looks like a job for pre-made cookies, white chocolate and broken candy canes.
I made the Martha Stewart cookies last year. Very delicious, but unprepared for the work that goes into them. If you REALLY enjoy the cookies, they're worth the effort of making.
This might be a simpler option:

I haven't made them but they look delicious!
I just came across this recipe in a blog (via photograzing) http://mymadisonbistro.com/archives/chocolate-peppermint-cookies
