Q: I want to make a tasty entree using the fresh, in season strawberries I have sitting in my kitchen. But all I can find are sweet recipes, or strawberry salads.
Any savory strawberry recipes out there?

Editor: Sara, here's one article that was really helpful on this topic; it has a discussion of using strawberries in savory dishes, and some recipe ideas:

I haven't tried it, but I saw a recipe for Strawberry Leek Quesadillas that looked pretty good!

I have this recipe bookmarked to try. Since I have some fresh strawberries at home, too, I may give this a whirl tonight.

Perhaps as a compote or glaze for a pork tenderloin. I would cook down some strawberries with balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper, mash it up, and glaze the roast. Yum! Not too hot of an oven otherwise the sugars will burn. So maybe it's a finishing glaze. Thoughts?
I was also going to suggest a compote, chutney, or salsa over some kind of meat (pork tenderloin sounds great, purdygirl).
Or what about grilling them? Here's a savory recipe I just found for grilled shrimp and strawberries with fennel slaw.
Hi, we posted one on our site which I thought you might like it is for a ricotta tart with a strawberry coulis. http://www.womanandhome.com/articles/food/recipes/293224/ricotta-tart-with-strawberry-coulis.html
Hope you like it - for me strawberrys are best served sweet though!
I made this strawberry avocado salsa and had it with tacos al carbon http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/strawberry-avocado-salsa-50400000111969/ . I had to hide it to keep my husband from eating all of it before dinner.
At a fast food restaurant in Mexio, I once had strawberry beef tacos. Oh. My. Goodness. One of the best things I've ever eaten, easily! I have tried to replicate the recipe before - I brown ground beef and onions in oil, splash some strawberry balsamic vinegar over top, and add in sliced strawberries. Yum!
For awhile my go-to salad was spinach, strawberries and toasted pecans with plenty of black pepper and just a tiny touch of balsamic.
There was also a black pepper strawberry marinara on Yumsugar awhile back that I made, but I found it too sweet. Good luck!
how about an arugula, strawberry, almond salad with balsamic?
What a great post/question because I found myself recently searching for the same type of savory strawberry recipes. Perfect timing. I have happily decided to make a strawberry jalapeno salsa but next time I'll have to try that strawberry leek quesadilla recipe over at sprouted kitchen blog! Sounds so delish!
I know you said main dish and not salad, but I just discovered that strawberries, cooked beets, onions and your choice of greens makes a great salad! A tangy sweet dressing just sets it off (french, vidalia onion, poppy seed etc), add some chicken and your all set for a main dish salad.
If I have strawberries that are starting to get past their prime, I make a gastrique and serve it with pork chops or pork tenderloin.
Strawberry salsa is yummy. Has a sweet edge of course but savory all the same.
Another vote for strawberries in salad! Toss with simple greens, avocado, oil, balsamic vinegar, and a teensy bit of red onion. I bet they would also work in a grain salad with similar tangy ingredients.
I braised a turkey breast in homemade strawberry chipotle preserves:

The preserve recipe is a days-long affair, but you can easily wing it with fresh strawberries and chipotles en adobo.
In spain we prepare gazpacho with strawberries, I have not published the recipe yet, but if it interest you I will write it down...
The posted article does mention using strawberries to top risotto, but here's a recipe I tried once - though really I prefer to let the raw berries shine through in a salad if I'm going to go the savory route.

Another thought I just had would be to do a kind of strawberry bruschetta, maybe with goat cheese
so the recipe for strawberries gazpacho is:
500 gr tomatos
500 gr strawberries
50 ml olive oil
1 garlic clove
2 tablespoons vinegar
50 gr red pepper
Just blend all the ingredients and serve very cold, can be decorated with some cheese crumbs
Agree with Emily S - strawberry bruschetta! I would make it with goat cheese, black pepper, and arugula.
strawberries and balsamic mashed up would be yummy on a skirt steak i think.
Seconding Kristen's comment: strawberries with goat cheese (in just about any form) is sublime.
I came across this delicious looking recipe for crispy margarita chicken tacos with strawberry avocado salsa. I haven't made it yet -- planning to do it this weekend!

I created this recipe Spinach, Asparagus and Strawberry Salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette and Blue Cheese after I had something like it at a wedding reception. My husband and I love it.
