Oh sweet potato biscuits! This recipe from Molly Wizenberg looks wonderful, as does Matt Armendariz's explanation of colatura, the Italian answer to fish sauce.

Straw Mat from The ...

Thank you so much for the shout out and the link! Truly appreciated. :)
What a surprise! I cruised by here as I do quite often, and thought, somebody noticed little ole SippitySup. Thank you for the honor of appearing here. GREG
Oh my gosh... maple sweet potatoes from Saturday (plus) our annual whole Serrano ham that arrived last week (equals) TASTY BISCUITS! What a great post.
I have to get my hands on a bottle of that fish sauce. I think I just recycled the latest Zingerman's catalog.
I'm dying to try the beet fusilli recipe, but what in the world is a "dash" of pasta??
The colatura di alici is delicious. We bravely transported some home, wrapped in about a million layers, and it survived.
Eeee that beet pasta looks downright anatomical
Huh, I'm a classics nerd and a food geek, and had no idea that garum had survived through the centuries, in the form of colatura! Fascinating! Now I just have to track some down!
I found the fish sauce on the Zingerman's web site, if anyone is interested: http://www.zingermans.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=P-COL
I love Sweet potato biscuits with ham!
Zoinks! Zingerman's charges $7.99 to ship the $18 bottle of colatura. Ouch.
Rarely does a baked good make me want to stop what I'm doing and bake it right away - but those nearly black brownies did just that!
SippitySup - That pasta dish looks divine, and I just looked at the recipe. One omission though... when/where does the mint come in?? At the very end? Thanks!
I made cookies a few weeks ago using Hershey's Special Dark cocoa, and they came out about as black as those brownies.
cara_mia--that's the cocoa I used in the brownies. Added that fact to the recipe in the post. ;)
I have made the beet pasta recipe before with good results. The beet flavor wasn't very strong (probably due to all the butter) which makes it a good way to introduce beets to people who don't usually eat them. The color of the dish is shocking but on par with just about anything made with beets as the main ingredient.
